History

The Welsh Corgis have been around since 1107 AD. They certainly looks a little different from today, but there are historical records describing a short-legged dog used for driving cattle in Wales.
The Pembroke has been a distinctly separate breed from the Cardigan since the late 1800s. Today, the most noticeable differences between Pembroke and Cardigan are the ears and tail. The Pembroke have are pointed and erect ears which Cardigan appears more rounded ears and much longer tail.
Pembrokes and Cardigans first entered the show ring in 1925 and the Corgi Club was founded in December of that year. They were officially recognised by the UK Kennel Club in 1928 as “Welsh Corgis”.
The world’s most famous Corgi fan is Elizabeth II. The queen got her first Corgi Dookie in 1933 and her subsequent love of the breed has helped to make corgis become popular around the world.
As of 2013, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi stands as the 24th most popular breed in US and the Cardigan ranks at 75 according to American Kennel Club.
